6/10/2023 0 Comments Nick and charlie![]() ![]() ![]() My point is that when they reconcile (after Charlie avoided the issue for two or so weeks and didn't talk to Nick, may I add), they don't really talk about (or the POV from neither of them indicates) that is not that healthy of Charlie to not comunicate what is happening with him and to put other people on "test". ![]() So then they have a fallout in a party with a drunk Charlie telling Nick that if Nick wants to break up, they should break up (and, for Charlie, his is a test on Nick, as he later says so). I find quite telling of this when Nick says something like "Charlie lies to everybody" or when Charlie says something like Nick has become pretty good at telling when he is having a bad time without Charlie communicating it. ![]() Spoiler alert if you haven't read the book, I guess?Īnyway, a couple of days ago I finished "Nick and Charlie" and, though I liked it and thought it was a cute story, I think the main issue in the conflict between Charlie and Nick isn't really addressed.įrom my perspective (and I think is what Alice Oseman wants to imply), the main problem is that Charlie tends to not talk about his feelings and avoids situations that make him anxious, so he lets them bottle up until they explode. ![]() ![]() During the First World War, she worked at a hospital as a nurse later working at a hospital pharmacy, a job that influenced her work, as many of the murders in her books are carried out with poison. Mr. The fact that she accomplishes all of this with lyricism, authenticity and compassion is not only an act of bravery and confidence but a testament to her virtuosic capabilities as a writer. In fact, one of the most remarkable feats of the novel is show how a septuagenarian can possess the kind of sizzle and sexual passion that would make most millennials look like poor relations of Mary Poppins…It must be noted that by writing directly in the voice of an older, gay Caribbean man, Bernardine Evaristo, who’s British-Nigerian and a woman, has executed an extraordinary act of ventriloquism that crosses gender boundaries as well as racial, cultural, sexual and linguistic differences. ABOUT SISTERS OF THE WIND Emma van Meyeren ![]() 6/7/2023 0 Comments Beren and luthien book![]() ![]() ![]() Beren takes on the challenge, and adventure ensues. Her father does not approve of this union between elf and non-elf, and sets him on an impossible quest: to bring him one of the Silmarils-ancient, powerful gems-from the crown of the evil Morgoth. He stumbles upon the beautiful elf Lúthien, who is dancing in a glade, and they fall in love. The bones of the story have Beren wandering through a wood-in some versions he is a man, in others not. Beren and Lúthien are ancestors of Arwen and Aragorn, living thousands of years earlier, in the First Age of Middle Earth. Tolkien’s son Christopher, brings together the many versions of this tale, which is a key element of the Silmarillion, the universe-building compendium that precedes the action in The Lord of the Rings. The Tale of Beren and Lúthien, a new book edited by J.R.R. Romance, in fact, lies at the center of the Lord of the Rings mythology: Before Arwen and Aragorn, there was Beren and Lúthien. Their relationship gives emotional and narrative depth to Aragorn’s heroics, while in the books their marriage symbolizes the everlasting bond between their two races. As the movie adaptations of the 2000s brought out, the affair between Arwen the elf and Aragorn the man pits the lovers against impossible odds, and yet their love triumphs. But that epic of magic and monsters and fraternal friendship contains many slivers of romance. ![]() The Lord of the Rings is not usually portrayed as a love story. ![]() |
